Amala Paul is a kerala born actress who has been mostly doing tamil movies. After completing 12th std, she played a supporting role in a malayalam movie, Neelathamara directed by Lal Jose. Then she started taking many low budget movies like vikadakavi and veerasekaran which also went unnoticed. She became prominent for her critically acclaimed role in Sindhu Samaveli as a young girl having illicit affair with her father in law.
She reached her stardom after her amazing role in Prabhu Solomon's mynaa as the female lead where she recieved recognition from all quarters. Other movies she has done are Ithu Nammude Katha (malayalam), Deiva thirumagal opposite vikram and Anoushka (tamil), Vettai opposite Arya and Madhavan (tamil), Run Baby Run opposite Mohanlal (malayalam), Muppozhuthum Un Karpanaigal opposite Adharva, Nimirnthu Nil (tamil), Kadhalil Sodhapuvathu eppadi (tamil), Akashathinte Niram (malayalam), Janda Pai Kappiraju (Telugu), Naayak (Telugu), Iddarammayilatho (Telugu) and Ram Gopal Varma's Bejawada (Telugu).
She had won many awards including Amrita FEFKA Film awards for best actress for Mynaa, Edison awards for New face for Mynaa, Film fare awards South for Best actress in Mynaa, MGR-SIVAJI award for best actress for mynaa, Vijay awards for best actress and best debutante for Mynaa and jaya awards for Youth female icon of the year for Deiva Thirumagal. Amala Paul for a brief period appeared on screens in the name Anakha.
